Upcoming RISE project events in Slovenia

Project RISE (Roma Inclusive School Experiences) is devoted to creating more inclusive schools for all of the children. Project partners from Italy, Portugal and Slovenia are aiming to fight the discrimination in education and to reduce absence rates and educational disengagement, especially of Roma children.

Projects team from RIC Novo mesto is cooperating with six primary schools from Dolenska region. In February all of the schools involved in the project will attend a theatre play: The best Roma busker. The performance will entail a message of acceptance and inclusion. Play is written by a Roma author- Rajko Šajnovič and will educate children on the Roma culture.

After the play children will be invited to write or draw a comic book with a similar story based on their experiences. The main message of the stories will be that although we are different, each is important and worthy of acceptance and our friendship. The notions of discrimination, inclusion, acceptance will be explained to children in order to create an inclusive school for all children.

The performance will also serve as an introduction to workshops for children.

All classes involved in the project will be invited to a workshop intended for the production of didactic material. The products that will be created at the workshops will promote inclusion and help in the fight against discrimination. The products will promote respect and collaborative learning in the classroom.  The products will be presented at the closing conference of the project (exhibition) and a video will be prepared, which will be created during the recording of workshops.
