THE SLOVENIAN NATIONAL CONFERENCE TOOK PLACE ON THE 17TH OF OCTOBER 2019

On Thursday, October 17, 2019, the RISE (Roma Inclusive School Experiences) Slovenian Conference was held at the RIC Novo mesto.

The event was called: Together on the Path of Knowledge: “Be inclusive”. The aim of the conference was to promote inclusive education for all children and to present the most important results of the RISE project.

The scientific coordinator of the project from the University of Bologna, Maria Teresa Tagliaventi outlined the goals of the project: combating discrimination in the education of Roma children and combating school absenteeism, reducing the absence of Roma children and creating an inclusive school model. Within the project, we have trained teachers in the field of knowledge and use in the classroom of inclusive teaching methods such as collaborative learning and work-based learning and for intercultural pedagogy.

Vera Klopčič from the Institute for Ethnic Studies, opened the discussion for the transfer of good practices with her lecture on the Inclusion of Roma Learners in Slovenia, Italy and Portugal.

We were also informed on the effects of the project in local schools, described by Darja Brezovar, Principal at Bršljin Primary School in Novo mesto.

The highlight of the day was a lecture by Alessandro Melillo from Italy, who introduced us to the importance of tolerance and inclusion of all students in European schools.

The vision of inclusive education systems is to ensure that all students of any age are provided with quality educational opportunities in their local community, along with friends and peers.
